Sparrows Nest Vocational Training Institute is a community-based educational center located in Uganda, dedicated to empowering vulnerable and disadvantaged youth, especially girls, through hands-on vocational training. We focus on equipping students with life-changing skills that promote self-reliance, dignity, and hope for a better future. Our mission is rooted in love, service, and practical education for communities most at risk.

At Sparrows Nest Vocational Training Institute, our vision is to create a brighter future for vulnerable children and communities in Uganda. We aim to achieve this by providing quality education, promoting sustainable livelihoods, and offering support to those in need. As we look to the future, we are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of poor people.
To empower vulnerable children, youth, and communities—especially girls—by providing accessible vocational education, life skills training, and psychosocial support that promotes dignity, sustainability, and long-term transformation.
We offer a variety of practical, market-relevant courses, including:

Crafts and Beadwork

Basic Business and Entrepreneurship Skills
All our courses focus on practical training, mentorship, and character development to ensure students can launch businesses, find employment, or return to education with new confidence.
Key Achievements
Over 100 vulnerable youth trained in hands-on vocational skills since our founding in 2016.
Successfully rescued and rehabilitated over 50 girls from the streets, trafficking, and sexual exploitation.
Built a clean water source to support both the institute and the surrounding community.

Our History:
Humble Beginnings to Lasting Impact
Sparrows Nest Vocational Training Institute began as a grassroots initiative, reaching vulnerable individuals in their homes to teach them essential tailoring skills. From 2016 to 2019, these training sessions were held under trees and in informal settings—proof of our determination to empower communities with or without resources. The dream was clear: to create a safe, permanent space where the most disadvantaged could gather and learn skills that would transform their lives. In 2020, with limited funding, we built a small training room at the center. This simple structure marked the turning point in our journey, allowing us to hold regular sessions every Thursday and Friday.
The years that followed brought both growth and hardship. In 2021, we expanded our facility with an additional classroom block to accommodate young people rescued from sex trade, school dropouts, and exploited youth. Then came the COVID-19 pandemic, which deeply affected our students. With schools closed across Uganda, many girls faced early pregnancies, child marriages, and lost their hope of returning to education. But in 2023, we stood strong. Our first class of 22 tailoring and design students graduated proudly. We also opened the B… Legacy Block, a five-classroom addition that gave us room to support even more learners. Leadership changed hands during this time as Mr. Nayebare Amon took over from Mrs. Olivia, ensuring the continuity of our mission.
By 2024, we had consolidated our impact. We constructed a water well to serve the community after a tragic drowning incident, and we launched a plantation project on school land to improve food security for our learners. The institute was officially accredited by the Ministry of Education and Sports and assigned a registration number (to be added). We celebrated our second graduation with 44 students earning certificates. Despite challenges—especially in feeding our students—we continue to seek sponsors to help us sustain and grow this mission.

At Sparrows Nest Vocational Training Institute, we welcome applications from vulnerable youths across Uganda who are seeking a second chance at life through practical, skills-based education. Our admissions process is designed to be inclusive and supportive, prioritizing orphans, girls rescued from trafficking and prostitution, street children, and other at-risk individuals. We offer intakes throughout the year, and applicants can apply directly through our campus or with the help of local partners and community leaders. Upon admission, each student is guided through orientation and placed into a suitable course based on their passion, ability, and future goals. Scholarships and sponsorship opportunities may be available for those with financial constraints.
